Political observer Ray Rangkuti believes that the return of the leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Habib Rizieq Shihab to the country has actually pulled back supporters of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who are already disappointed with government policies.
The policies of the Jokowi regime that have drawn protests are the revision of the KPK Law and the passing of the Job Creation Law or Omnibus Law.
"For the government, the return of HRS (Habib Rizieq Shihab) is important, first to pull back the knot of supporters who were already disappointed with at least the two previous policies, the revision of the KPK Law and the ratification of the Job Creation Law," said Ray.
Second, Ray assessed that Rizieq's arrival actually had an impact on the solidarity of Jokowi's supporters, who had weakened due to the revision of the KPK Law and the ratification of the Job Creation Law.
"(The presence of Habib Rizieq Shihab) has consolidated Jokowi's main supporters, who for the past few months have weakened due to Jokowi's previous policies," he said.
Then thirdly, the Executive Director of Lingkar Madani for Indonesia (LIMA) said that Rizieq Shihab's return had instead shifted the issue of urging the revocation of the Job Creation Law to another issue.
"(Rizieq's return) shifted the issue of the Job Creation demands to the issue of Islam vs State . And Jokowi will garner support from moderate Islamic circles," said Ray.
In addition, Ray said for other Jokowi supporting actors, Rizieq's presence actually strengthened their respective 'bargaining' positions in Jokowi's circle.
"For other Jokowi supporting actors, HRS can be friends in order to strengthen their respective positions in Jokowi's circle," said Ray.
