FPI denies that its members guarding Habib Rizieq were equipped with firearms.
Jakarta -The Islamic Defenders Front ( FPI ) denied reports that its members were equipped with weapons, let alone firearms (senpi). FPI feels slandered for this.
"It is a big slander if our troops are said to be carrying firearms and shooting. That slander," said the General Secretary of the Islamic Defenders Front (Sekum FPI) Munarman in a press conference on Monday (7/12/2020).
Munarman's statement was greeted by calls by other FPI members who attended the press conference. " Allahuakbar ," exclaimed the FPI member.
Munarman continued, FPI has never equipped its members with sharp weapons because they usually use their bare hands to solve problems that threaten safety. Munarman said the police statement regarding the presence of weapons controlled by FPI members was an attempt to distort the facts.
"Our soldiers are never equipped with firearms, we are used to empty hands. We are not cowards. So slander, and this is extraordinary slander, distorting the facts by stating that the laskar attacked first and carried out the shooting," said Munarman.
Munarman then challenged Polda Metro Jaya to reveal data on firearms that were said to have been confiscated from FPI members. Munarman admitted that FPI did not have access to possession of firearms.
"If it is true, try to check the firearms registration number, the bullets are recorded, check. I make sure it is not ours because we do not have access to firearms. And it is impossible to buy from the black market," said Munarman.
Previously, Polda Metro Jaya held a press conference regarding the attack of its members by Habib Rizieq's followers at KM 50 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, this morning. Police said two cars of Habib Rizieq's followers suddenly stopped the car and stopped the vehicle.
After that, Habib Rizieq's followers pointed sharp weapons, namely samurai, sickles and pistols at the police. Feeling that his life was threatened, the police finally shot the FPI followers.
Kapolda Metro Jaya Inspector General M Fadil Imran said that there were 6 members of the FPI laskar who died as a result of being shot by the police. Meanwhile 4 other FPI members fled.
